Approved Manager Course Overview
The Approved Manager Course provides the essential knowledge and skills to operate a licensed premises in accordance with the Liquor Control Act 1988 and individual licensing requirements. MLPLCA001 – Manage legislative responsibilities for the sale, supply and service of liquor training is the mandatory unit for all licensees and unrestricted Approved Managers in Western Australia – (click here for details from the DLGSC website).
This course provides the essential knowledge and skills to operate a licensed premises in accordance with the Liquor Control Act 1988 and individual licensing requirements.
NB: An Unrestricted Approved Manager is a manager of commercially licensed premises such as a tavern, liquor store, or venue with a special facility licence.
Note: Students on Subclass 500 Visas are not eligible to study this course.
MLP1 (MLPLCA001) vs MLP (52473WA)
MLPLCA001 – Manage legislative responsibilities for the sale, supply and service of liquor (MLP1) forms part of the 52863WA – Course in Management of Licensed Premises full qualification (MLP) and (MLP1) is the single nationally recognised Unit of Competency which is required for all licensees and unrestricted Approved Managers in Western Australia. However, please note that although you only need MLP1 to be an Approved Manager, it is recommended that people who manage a licensed venue selling liquor to the public or sell liquor in a wholesale environment, complete the full qualification of “52863WA – Course in Management of Licensed Premises”.
If you would like to complete the full qualification of “52863WA – Course in Management of Licensed Premises” you will need to enrol in the following Units of Competency: Core Unit
- MLPLCA001 – Manage legislative responsibilities for the sale, supply and service of liquor (MLP1)
and either one of the following electives:
- MLPLCA002 – Manage premises for the sale, supply and service of liquor (MLP2)
- MLPLCA003 – Manage environments for the production or wholesale supply service of liquor (MLP3)

Entry Requirements
Before starting this course you must have completed either of the following units (or future equivalent unit/s): SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) or SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) – Click here to learn more about the WA RSA course…
Students must be able to demonstrate a level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to be able to read and interpret legislation and regulations, hold discussions with all stakeholder groups and gather and provide information in both written and oral forms.
Students must also be residents in Western Australia – and will be required to provide proof of residency. Individuals who are on visas will be required to provide visa information, so that course eligibility can be verified.
Please note that Streamline Training is not registered as a CRICOS provider and cannot provide training to overseas students who hold an Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) except for the following exempt short courses: SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol, SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices.
Students on Subclass 500 Visas are not eligible to study this course.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be issued with physical Statements of Attainment for each of the above Units of Competency. If you would like to complete the qualification of 52863WA – Course in Management of Licensed Premises, you can add one of the following units for an additional fee. While the minimum requirement for new licensees and new unrestricted approved managers is the completion of the Core Unit (MLPLCA001), applicants are strongly encouraged to complete either elective unit to gain a greater depth of knowledge.
